Common Mistakes People Make When Building Sunrooms

Sunrooms are a great way to add space to your house, create an area where people can read books or study in peace, and generally allow your family to absorb more vitamin D from the sun. This can help improve the mood of everyone that is in your home. However, there are a few common mistakes that people make when they are building sunrooms that can cause them to be less functional than you might prefer. Here are some common mistakes that people make when they are building sunrooms and how you can avoid making them too.

1. They Don't Pay Attention to Climate

The main problem that many people with sunrooms experience is that they don't pay attention to the climate in which they live. This means that they might build a sunroom that is not well ventilated, despite living in a hot area, which will make the sunroom unusable during the summer. It could also mean that they build a sunroom in an area that gets very cold during the winter without insulating the sunroom, meaning that it can't be used comfortably in the winter. You can avoid this problem by simply considering the rooms of your house. Whatever makes those rooms comfortable should be added to the sunroom as well.

For example, insulated windows are your best bet for cold and hot weather due to the fact that they increase the resistance of the sunroom to changing with the temperature outside the house.

2. It's Too Small

People sometimes want to scrimp when they build a sunroom. They know that a sunroom doesn't necessarily need to be large enough for more than one person. However, if you do not build your sunroom large enough for at least some furniture, the room is not going to be particularly comfortable. Be sure that your sunroom is at least 10 feet wide and long in order to increase the chances that you will have room for at least a chair or small sofa and a table.

3. They Get Furniture and Rugs That Are Not Resistant to Fading

Sunrooms are designed with many windows in order to let in sun. If you get furniture or carpeting that is not resistant to the UV rays of the sun, they are going to fade fast and look bad quickly. Be sure that you are smart when it comes to buying furnishings and floor covers.
